Debt Collector

Permanent - Farnham ,Surrey

Position Overview

The Group Debt Collector is responsible for ensuring that all clients’ credit accounts are maintained

on a weekly basis and any amounts owed to The Group and our clients are collected efficiently and

effectively. This will involve a large amount of telephone work as well as liaising with other staff to

deal with queries or issues arising.

Principal Responsibilities


· Pursue Clients for fees and other amounts due

· Liaise with other staff regarding queries and issues raised

· Update records regarding communications made and matters raised

· Process receipt of client cash and fee payments

· Prepare and distribute data and reports on a timely and efficient basis

· Preparation of online Court Collection Summons and High Court Enforcement

· Liaise directly with third party debt enforcement contractors

Customer Service

· To build and maintain effective relationships with our clients, by use of appropriate

questioning, clarification and language

· To communicate courteously with all clients by telephone and email, progressing issues

and queries to a successful conclusion at the earliest time


· To work as part of a team to achieve the company standards

· To work together with other departments to identify any process improvements and

improve standards, efficiency and profitability

· To provide finance and credit control guidance and assistance to other team members

on product solutions

Skills, Knowledge & Experience


· Good experience in collections of CCA arrears and debt

· Good understanding and experience working under FCA collections regulations

· Experience of credit control & debt management

· Well-developed communication skills, both written and verbal

· Clear telephone manner and clear listening skills

· Resilient and pro-active

· Excellent customer focus

· Good IT skills - Microsoft Excel and an ability to use complex bespoke systems

· Analytical and logical problem solving skills

· Good business and commercial understanding

· Demonstrates drive and positive approach to work and a determination and motivation

to achieve targets

· Good time management

· Team player

· Flexible approach


· Experience of working with HMRC highly preferable

· Knowledge of VAT and Personal Tax

· Knowledge of debt collection and FCA legislation

Hours of Work

· Hours: 8.30am - 5.30pm with 1 hour for lunch (Mon-Thurs) and 8.30am - 5.00pm with 30

minutes for lunch (Fri)

· 20 days holiday, increasing by 1 day per year to a maximum of 25 days
